Wallachian open-air museum in the town of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm
The Wallachian Village
The Wallachian Village occupies the largest area of the open-air museum. Farmsteads, wells, bell towers, windmills and blacksmith workshops are set among the jagged landscape which faithfully copies the character of traditional Walachian villages on the hillside of Beskydy Mountains.
The construction of the Village started in 1962 and it has been opened since 1972. The interior exhibitions display the living style of Wallachian inhabitants from the half of 19th century. The Wallachian Village is a popular venue for numerous programme presenting the traditional trades and crafts, customs or technologies. Various fruit trees grown on local small fields reflect the rural life at that time. Numerous species of domestic animals are bred in the village including the flock of unique sheep.
The Wooden Townlet
The Wooden Townlet is the oldest part of Wallachian Open-Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The museum was opened in 1925 and embodies the distinctive spirit of vernacular Moravian municipal architecture of the late 19th century and early 20th century. During the high season, the visitors may attend the performances of both and local folklore
groups every weekend. The Wooden Townlet also hosts many large annual folklore festivals.
